Approximately 24% of US hospitals are reporting a “critical staffing shortage,” Quartz reported. The data comes from the 5,000 hospitals reporting staff information to the US Department of Health and Human Services. Quartz noted this is the largest share of hospitals reporting shortages since the government began releasing data in November 2020. The situation comes amid high hospitalizations for Covid-19 and large numbers of healthcare workers in isolation after having contracted the disease.
