The US added IT jobs for the 12th consecutive month in July, reported the TechServe Alliance, a national trade association of the IT and engineering staffing industry. However, the rate of growth has slowed.

“While it’s hard not to applaud 12 consecutive months of IT employment gains and hitting a new all-time high, the rate of growth slowed to the lowest level in a year,” TechServe Alliance CEO Mark Roberts said.

IT jobs rose by 0.09% in July compared to June for a total of nearly 5.4 million.

“The talent supply challenge is very real,” Roberts continued. “While the shortage of workers is a new development for many labor categories, in IT, it has been a crisis in the making for years. Given this supply side challenge, I anticipate we will continue to see anemic growth rates for the foreseeable despite very strong demand.”

On a year-over-year basis, the increase was 4.91% in July.

Separately, engineering employment rose by 0.24% month-over-month in July to more than 2.6 million. The increase was 3.11% on a year-over-year basis.
