IT staffing revenue is projected to increase 6% this year to $35.9 billion amid growing volume and tighter supply, according to Staffing Industry Analysts’ “US Staffing Industry Forecast: September 2021 Update.” IT staffing is the largest single temporary staffing segment in terms of revenue.
It’s also an area where the supply of workers continues to be critically short.
The TechServe Alliance, a trade organization of IT and engineering staffing firms, found the number of IT jobs in the US ticked downward in February for the first time in 18 months because of the tight supply of jobs.
IT workers, in general, also appear restless. Only 29% of IT workers have a high intent to say with their current employer, according to a global survey released earlier this month by Gartner.
Staffing Industry Analysts’ online Lexicon defines IT staffing as:
“Staffing of software engineers, network administrators and other occupations with a significant computer programming, computer systems or computer user support component. Common job titles include IT project manager, data analyst/data scientist, database administrator, network and computer systems administrator, computer technical support specialist and medical records and health information technician.”
