Employment falls by 226,700 jobs in Canada during April

Employment in Canada fell by 226,700 jobs in April from March, according to the ADP Canada National Employment Report released today.

In addition, the number of jobs lost in March was revised upward to 177,300 from 17,200.

“The labor market experienced a sharp decline in April as a result of Covid-19,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, VP and co-head of the ADP Research Institute. “The industries hardest hit by job losses were trade, leisure and hospitality, education and finance.”
