Jobless rates up in all US metro areas in April

Unemployment rates were higher in April than a year earlier in all 389 metropolitan areas, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. A total of 52 areas had jobless rates of less than 10.0% and 12 areas had rates of at least 25.0%.

The Hartford-West Hartford-East Hartford metropolitan area in Connecticut posted the lowest jobless rates among all large metro areas in April at 7.5%, according to data released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statics. The Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota-Bloomington, Wisconsin metro area followed at 9.2%.

Meanwhile, the highest jobless rate among large metro areas was in Nevada’s Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise area, which was 33.5% in April, followed by the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn area in Michigan at 24.4% and the Cleveland-Elyria area in Ohio at 23.1%

Among metropolitan areas of all sizes, the Logan area in Utah and Idaho posted the lowest jobless rate in April at 6.2%. The highest was in the Kahului-Wailuku-Lahaina area of Hawaii at 35.0%.
