Commenting on NHS England coming back into the Department of Health and Social Care, The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) Deputy Chief Executive Kate Shoesmith said:
“For too long, successive governments have failed to grasp the nettle on NHS workforce problems, leading NHSE to adopt ad-hoc policies that save pennies but end up costing pounds. A proper workforce discussion – one that involves staffing supply experts among others – must accompany this major healthcare reform, to ensure its future success for both workers and patients. That means focusing on the bottom-up needs of services and respecting staff choices to maximise the impact of substantive staff, while using bank and agency workers more sustainably for everyone.”
