IT employment rose by 0.5% to more than 5.2 million jobs in December compared to November, according to a report released Tuesday by the TechServe Alliance, a national trade association of IT and engineering staffing and solutions industry.
While IT employment still remains down 2.08% on a year-over-year basis, TechServe Alliance CEO Mark Roberts said December’s increase was good news.
“For the fifth consecutive month, IT employment posted strong growth in December. From its low ebb in July, the graph reflecting the recovery is taking on a ‘hockey stick’-like trajectory,” Roberts said. “While not quite back to employment levels pre-pandemic, we have made extraordinary progress in recovering the jobs lost in the spring and early summer.”
The TechServe Alliance also noted that engineering employment rose by 0.34% in December from November to nearly 2.6 million jobs.
Year-over-year engineering employment was still down by 2.77%.
