The California Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit claiming the Proposition 22 independent contractor measure approved by voters was unconstitutional, The Associated Press reported. California voters approved they measure by 58% last November; it allows firms such as Uber and DoorDash to continue classifying drivers as independent contractors. Proposition 22 came in response to the state’s AB 5 law that aims to get tough on misclassification and that some felt, without Proposition 22, the law could have required the firms to no longer use the independent contractor classification for drivers. A group of ride-hailing drivers and the Service Employees International Union filed the lawsuit last month, CNet had reported.
