The American Staffing Association today released this statement to the news media from Richard Wahlquist, president and chief executive officer:
The reprehensible and violent assault on the U.S. Capitol runs counter to the foundations of our democracy and the principles of our Constitution. One of those principles is the right to peaceful protest but those who broke the law and engaged in acts of violence must be held accountable and prosecuted. At the same time, those entrusted with enforcing the law must always do so evenhandedly no matter the politics or the issues raised by those protesting. Americans voted in record numbers in November and now is the time to come together in support of the peaceful transfer of power. It’s time to come together in support of the values we share as Americans and the principles upon which our democracy was founded.
