Active Staffing Services, a New York-headquartered staffing provider, announced that earlier this year it acquired Normann Staffing Services, a staffing firm that specialized in direct hire in the industrial and office/clerical segments. The acquisition was a strategic move to expand Active Staffing into New Jersey.
Normann had an office in Totowa, New Jersey, bringing Active Staffing to three offices in the state. Normann had operated throughout New Jersey since 1968.
In addition to New York and New Jersey, Active Staffing has offices in Florida, Texas and Georgia.
Terms of the transaction were not announced.
In an interview with Staffing Industry Analysts on Sept. 1, Active Staffing CEO Benjamin Elzweig noted that direct hire was not impacted by a new law in New Jersey that added requirements to industrial staffing firms in the state, including a requirement that temporary workers receive equal pay as opposed to workers employed directly by client companies. Normann focused on direct hire.
Still, Active Staffing does provide industrial temporary workers in the state.
“We’ve seen some cilents say I’m not going to use the temp staffing model anymore,” Elzweig said. On the flip side, some clients have decided to transfer their entire workforce to the staffing firm.
