As new HR Policy Association leader takes over, what are the org’s priorities?

Across industries, workplaces are racing to keep up with the rapidly accelerating pace of change, all in an increasingly uncertain landscape—an environment where HR professionals are being called on to lead transformation. For new HR Policy Association Chairman Tim Richmond, that emerging mandate is central to the association’s forthcoming work.

Richmond, CHRO of pharmaceutical research and development company AbbVie, takes the reins of the HR Policy Association, which represents the HR leaders of nearly 400 large companies, on Sept. 10. Among his focuses as he steps into the leadership position are helping members navigate modern HR challenges like rising social and political tensions and the integration of AI and technology into workplaces, says Richmond, a 2016 Human Resource Executive HR Honor Roll winner and a 2020 inductee to the National Academy of HR.

While association leadership will concentrate on the evolving leadership challenges facing HR today, Richmond notes the organization will continue to be a leader around public policy work—such as through its work on healthcare cost transparency and its efforts to challenge a National Labor Relations Board decision regarding political protests at the workplace.

But first, Richmond plans to spend significant time listening to HRPA’s members to learn about their concerns and needs.

Richmond recently sat down with Human Resource Executive for a video interview about his new role with the HR Policy Association and where he hopes the organization can help drive HR in the coming years.
