The Canadian Staffing Index fell to a reading of 69 in April, down 33% from its year-ago reading. The index is released by the Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services, which also today announced its national board for 2020-2021.
Index readings reflect the volume of demand for temporary staffing in Canada. They are based upon the number of billed hours reported by a monthly panel of staffing firms. The index, produced by Staffing Industry Analysts on behalf of ACSESS, is not adjusted for seasonal factors.
The year-over-year decline was due to the impact of the coronavirus and lockdown orders, a decline similar to conditions in the US, according to Timothy Landhuis, research director at Staffing Industry Analysts. “We will be eagerly watching May trends to see how staffing volumes recover as businesses reopen across Canada,” Landhuis said.
Separately, ACSESS today announced its national board of directors for the 2020-2021 year. Ted Maksimowski, owner and franchise developer at Express Employment Professionals, assumes the presidency. Maksimowski was first elected to the board in 2010 and has held various committee positions, most recently chairing the PR and communications committee and serving as national VP.
Chris Roach of David Aplin Group in Toronto will serve as immediate past president. Treasurer will be Doug Hamlyn of Adecco Employment Services – Toronto; executive members at large will be Darlene Minatel of ManpowerGroup Canada – Toronto and Rita Sposato of Randstad Canada – Montreal.
The ACSESS national board includes representatives from throughout Canada, who serve for a two-year term and represent various industry sub-sectors, including professional search and placement agencies, temporary staffing, contract placements, multi-national firms and those serving niche markets.
