The Canadian staffing index released by the Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services edged upward to a reading of 97 in October from a reading of 96 in September. On a year-over-year basis, it was up 3%.
“The index was 97 in October, up 3% versus the prior-year month, although September this year contained one fewer working day,” said Timothy Landhuis, director of research, North America, at Staffing Industry Analysts, which produces the report in conjunction with ACSESS. “Adjusting for the number of working days, the volume of business in October was up roughly 8% year over year.”
Each month’s index is based upon the number of billed hours reported by a monthly panel of staffing firms. The index value of 100 corresponds to the size of the industry in July 2008, when the index began; the index is not adjusted for seasonal factors.
