Glassdoor’s New Community Volunteering And Giving Program Framework

Glassdoor’s community giving and volunteering program, Community Door, has been a channel for Glassdoor employees to give back to a variety of causes near and dear to our hearts. We’ve adopted families over the holidays, volunteered in animal shelters, and donated to causes in our communities. Now, in this pivotal moment in our company, and in our world, we’re re-orienting Community Door to focus on what we do best, where it is needed most. Going forward, the mission of Community Door will be to address systemic barriers for underrepresented groups entering the workforce. We believe we are uniquely positioned to help underrepresented job seekers with workforce preparedness resources, including toolkits, playbooks, and live development sessions on topics critical to entering the workforce.

Leveraging our internal expertise, we will host live (virtual, for now) workshops and panels with underrepresented groups. Topics will center around skill-building themes (e.g., salary negotiation) related to workforce preparedness.  Through partnership with non-profit organizations, we will connect our employees with members of underrepresented groups who could benefit from 1:1 support and guidance as they navigate their individual career paths.

With our new charter, we’ll be focusing on the following pillars: Inform, Invest, and Inspire.

Inform

Develop Community Resources:

We’ll aim to help underrepresented groups better prepare for and navigate the biggest career-related questions and challenges specific to them by developing and providing shareable content (packaged articles, product how-to’s, e-books, presentations, etc.).

Develop Company Resources:

We will be helping companies better support underrepresented groups in the workplace by providing them with toolkits that will help them with topics such as bias in the hiring process and retention strategies. There is an opportunity for us to partner with experts in the space and elevate their voice.

Invest

Donate Resources:

We’re dedicating ourselves to contributing useful resources such as old laptops to help with job hunting or free job postings and Employer Pages.

Donate Time:

We’ll be providing assistance through volunteering to organizations aligned with our focus area of workforce preparedness.

Donate Funds:

Supply financial resources to organizations that are helping to move the needle in creating employment access.

Inspire

Live Learning Events

Leveraging our internal expertise, we can host live (virtual, for now) workshops and panels with underrepresented groups. Topics would be centered around skill-building themes (e.g., salary negotiation) related to workforce preparedness.

Mentorship Opportunities

Through partnership with non-profit organizations, we can connect our employees with members of underrepresented groups who could benefit from 1:1 support and guidance as they navigate their individual career paths.

At Glassdoor, we are committed to not only cultivating a transparent and robust culture of diversity, inclusion, and belonging, but also addressing systemic barriers to employment for underrepresented groups where we work and live. We know that we’re uniquely positioned to help with workforce preparedness and access and look forward to serving our communities in deeper and more meaningful ways. Creating the structural change we know the world needs must start within and be reflected outwards in the communities in which we live and work.
