A California court has ordered employer-rating site Glassdoor to reveal the identities of users who wrote negative reviews of the New Zealand toy manufacturer Zuru, The Guardian reported. The toymaker began pursuing a defamation suit against the anonymous reviewers after observing a series of reviews referring to Zuru as a “burn-out factory” with a “toxic culture.” The court ruled that New Zealand’s defamation laws will hold relevance in this case and ordered Glassdoor to hand over identifying information for Zuru to undertake defamation proceedings against the reviewers in New Zealand. Glassdoor released a statement saying that it was “deeply disappointed in the court’s decision, which was effectively decided under New Zealand law.”
