The Covid-19 Delta variant is weighing on global economic growth, according to a new forecast released today by the International Monetary Fund. It reduced its forecast for global GDP growth this year to 5.9% — down from 6.0% in a forecast in July — with low-income, developing countries being most affected. The IMF forecast US GDP growth at 6.0% this year — down from 7.0% in the July forecast — before slowing to 5.2% in 2022.
