The US Department of Labor is working on regulations that could create a more flexible standard for classifying workers as independent contractors, according to an article in JDSupra by Richard Meneghello of law firm Fisher Phillips. The department released a formal regulatory notice on July 1. However, the rule would only regulate workers under federal wage and hour law, stricter legislation in states would remain in place.
