Four states tied for the lowest unemployment rate in March, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics announced today. It noted each of the states had a jobless rate of 2.9%, the lowest rate among all 50 states. The four states included Nebraska, South Dakota, Utah and Vermont.
The state with the highest jobless rate in March was Hawaii at 9.0%; it was followed by New York at 8.5%.
Hawaii posted the largest increase among all states in its unemployment rate in March, up 6.9 percentage points from March 2020, when the pandemic began affecting employment. New York posted the second-highest increase with its unemployment rate rising 4.6 percentage points.
The national unemployment rate in March was 6.0%.
