The Indianapolis metro area posted the lowest jobless rate, 2.2%, among all large US metropolitan areas in January, according to data released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. The second-lowest was Salt Lake City at 2.4%.
Among large metro areas with 1 million or more in population, the highest jobless rate was in the Cleveland area at 6.0%.
The jobless rates in all 51 of the largest metro areas fell year over year in January, the BLS noted. The largest decrease was in the Las Vegas metro area, where the jobless rate fell by six percentage points to 5.9%.
Looking at metro areas of all sizes, the Elkhart-Goshen, Indiana, area posted the lowest jobless rate at 1.6% in January. It was followed by the Columbus, Indiana, area at 1.9%.
Among metro areas of all sizes, the El Centro, California, metro area posted the highest jobless rate in January at 15.6%.
