A bill to overturn California’s AB 5 law that gets tough on independent contractor classification fizzled Thursday in the California Legislature, Courthouse News Service reported. That the bill, SB 806, failed to get out of committee is not surprising, but the fact there was a hearing at all is a sign of growing backlash against the bill, the Courthouse News Service reported. California’s Attorney General recently filed suit against Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UBER) and Lyft Inc. (NASDAQ: LYFT) alleging their drivers are misclassified under AB 5.
