National Locum Tenens Week is this week. It’s promoted by NALTO, the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations. And with the focus of this week, locum tenens is also the Staffing Word of the Week.
National Locum Tenens Week, which takes place in the second week of August each year, provides a forum to collectively recognize locum tenens doctors and the contributions made by staffing agencies to the US healthcare industry. It’s the sixth consecutive year for the event.
Staffing Industry Analysts estimates locum tenens revenue at $4.7 billion, up 7% from the previous year.
In addition, SIA’s Lexicon defined locum tenens as:
“Staffing of physicians, advanced practitioners (physician assistants, nurse practitioners or nurse anesthetists) or dentists on temporary assignments, which typically involves temporary relocation and staffing firm coverage of housing expenses.”
A full definition can be found in the Lexicon, which is available free online.
