The Los Angeles metropolitan area posted the highest jobless rate in June, 18.1%, among all large metro areas with 1 million or more in population, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The Las Vegas area was close behind with an unemployment rate of 18.1%.
On the flip side, the Salt Lake City metro area posted the lowest jobless rate among all large metros at 6.2% in June. Next-lowest was the Louisville/Jefferson County metro area that takes in parts of Kentucky and Indiana; it had a jobless rate of 6.4%.
Among metro areas of all sizes, the Atlantic City-Hammonton area in New Jersey had the highest unemployment rate in June at 34.3%. The lowest jobless rates could be found in Logan, Utah, at 3.5% and Idaho Falls, Idaho, at 3.6%.
