Minneapolis City Council members last week passed a measure to establish a minimum wage for independent contractor drivers of Uber, Lyft and other rideshare companies in the city, The Associated Press reported. Council members voted seven to five on Thursday to pass the law; however, the mayor can still veto the measure. Drivers within the city will be paid at least $1.40 per mile and $0.51 per minute or $5, whichever is greater, if the law goes into effect. Uber and Lyft have both released statements opposing the measure, according to The Associated Press.
