Mark Sankarsingh currently serves as vice president of global people solutions for PepsiCo’s 300,000 employees across more than 200 countries—two-thirds of whom are frontline associates. With a background in accounting and two decades of experience in HR tech, he understands the importance of responsible AI governance, transparency and avoiding bias in technology adoption.

At last month’s HR Tech conference, Sankarsingh stated that the introduction of generative AI has “changed the game” for HR tech. “I’ve noticed a significant acceleration in product roadmaps from providers, particularly with advancements in conversational AI and chatbot technologies,” he said.

While optimistic about these developments and their benefits, Sankarsingh acknowledged that adoption may not happen at the same pace as innovation. He advised HR tech buyers not to be tempted to implement new tools just because they’re available.

“At PepsiCo, we have nine [responsible AI] guidelines, including transparency, fairness and not being biased,” said Sankarsingh. At his organization, HR technology onboarding goes through a robust governance committee; an appropriate vetting process can take time and sometimes results in a vendor or platform being eliminated from consideration. “But we have to do it,” said Sankarsigh.

Sankarsingh sat down with HR Executive Tech Editor Jill Barth at HR Tech for a video interview to discuss the impact of emerging technology—including conversational and agentic AI—on HR processes.
