With 16.1% of its workforce in non-employer relationships, the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach area in Florida ranks as the metro area with the highest number of gig workers per capita (2017 data), according to a report by the Better Cities Project, a Las Vegas-based think tank. The organization released a report on the relationship between cities and gig economy companies; it includes data on the gig economy as well as ideas on what cities might focus on when developing regulations.
“Gig work is neither a fad nor something policymakers should reject in pursuit of undefined ‘good jobs,’” according to the report. “Any workforce trend that has been embraced by millions of workers across the country deserves thoughtful, enabling policy from local leaders.”
