Global revenue for temporary staffing platforms rose 58% year over year to $21.0 billion in 2022, according to Staffing Industry Analysts’ “Temporary Staffing Platform Update” report released last week.
Temporary staffing platforms are becoming more popular. They represented nearly 4% of the overall global temporary staffing market in 2022. They had represented less than 1% prior to 2020.
SIA’s Lexicon defines staffing platforms as “a segment of the staffing industry representing the automated/online version of the offline processes conducted by staffing firms.” They take the two-sided digital labor marketplace, ratings and other systems of online talent platforms but use the traditional staffing firm pricing model.
Examples of firms operating professional temporary staffing platforms include Aya Healthcare and Axiom. Examples of firms operating commercial temporary staffing platforms include Jobandtalent and Wonolo.
SIA’s report noted 76% of the global temporary staffing platform market is derived from professional staffing segments, and that is dominated by the US healthcare sector. In 2022, US healthcare staffing platforms reached a scale of $15.3 billion, an 80% year-over-year increase. Aya Healthcare was the largest.
The report notes that traditional staffing firms offering staffing platforms represented 62% of the staffing platform market in 2022.
