Thousands of Russian independent contractors/gig economy workers are being left behind as talent platforms suspend operations in the country, The Washington Post reported. One Russian illustrator told the newspaper that Upwork Inc. “was like opening a door into another world for me” in a country where she had struggled to find work locally. However, the opportunity is closing as the platform suspends Russian operations amid the war in Ukraine.
