Magazine reported that an operation at Artech was hit with a second ransomware attack after an earlier incident in January as ransomware continues to be a threat and criminals in the space are becoming more aggressive than ever.
Other firms in the workforce solutions ecosystem, including IT services provider Cognizant and IT staffing firm Collabera, have been hit by ransomware attacks this year as well. But, the ecosystem isn’t the only target. In Germany, hackers targeted a hospital and one person died amid the attack, the MIT Technology Review reported. In other reports, ransomware attacks earlier this year.
Working from home has stoked security fears in several corners. FBI advice on combating ransomware includes not paying the ransoms.
In Artech’s case, according to its general counsel, Eric Szoke, the second incident was very limited and localized; it involved a call center for technical questions, not the company’s staffing operations. Only a limited number of servers were involved, and they were shut down promptly, Szoke said. There was no impact on the company’s staffing business or clients. The business that was affected was later sold by the company.
