The US staffing industry employed an average of 2.7 million temporary and contract workers per week in 2021, according to data released today by the American Staffing Association. That’s below the 3.1 million weekly average in 2019 but above the 2.5 million in 2020.
“As the US economy continues adding back jobs after the pandemic recession, the staffing industry is playing a key role in getting people back to work,” ASA President and CEO Richard Wahlquist said.
Overall, staffing companies hired a total of 14.1 million temporary and contract employees in 2021, up from the 13.6 million hired in 2020, according to the ASA.
Average length of employment at a staffing firm was 10.1 weeks in 2021, an increase from the 9.6 weeks in 2020.
