ASA Staffing Index Monthly Report, May 2020
Staffing jobs for the week of May 11–17 increased 1.2% from the prior week, ticking up to a rounded value of 61, according to the ASA Staffing Index. Although staffing employment was down 36.0% year-to-year, this marks the third consecutive week that the index has advanced amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ASA Staffing Index four-week moving average held at a value of 60. Temporary and contract staffing employment for the period ending May 17 was 36.4% lower than the same period in 2019.

This week, containing the 12th day of the month, will be used in the May monthly employment situation report scheduled to be issued by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on June 5.

The ASA Staffing Index is reported nine days after each workweek, making it a near real-time measure of staffing employment trends. ASA research shows that staffing employment has historically been a coincident economic indicator.
