US temporary staffing revenue growth held steady in December with a year-over-year median increase of 2%; the size of increase was unchanged from November, according to the US Staffing Industry Pulse Survey Report: January 2021 Selected Highlights report. The report is based on a survey of 157 staffing firms.
Travel nursing once again proved a highlight; revenue was up a median 37% in December as Covid-19 numbers increased. The 37% growth was the travel nurse segment’s highest for the year.
Meanwhile, US per diem nurse staffing revenue grew by a median 7% year over year, and IT staffing revenue rose by a median 4%.
The largest decrease in December was in finance/accounting staffing, where revenue fell by a median 6%.
In addition, this month’s Pulse report asked about working from home. Overall, it found that 38% of temporary workers were working from home at the time of the survey, compared to 60% of internal staff. However, differences existed by company size and by skill segment served. For example, 73% of internal staff at travel nurse staffing firms were working from home while industrial was the only segment where a majority of internal staff did not work from home.
