DEI captured headlines in a big way this year—from the Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action policies at colleges to corporate dust-ups during Pride Month.
As 2024 approaches, those newsmakers will continue to shape corporate DEI strategies, but, experts say, there will be also be a number of other influencing factors, particularly increasing numbers of Gen Z, who expect strong DEI commitments, in the workforce. Corporate DEI in 2024 will also be impacted by wider HR trends like a heightened focus on ESG, ongoing shifts to hybrid and remote work, a rise in skills-based hiring and ongoing HR budget restraints, say experts including Anika Rahman, CEO of the National Diversity Council; and Katy George, chief people officer of McKinsey & Co.
